How do the French and English spend their Sunday afternoons in summer? Do they sunbathe? Yes. Do they eat too much? Of course! But they also play two very different sports. However, how do you play them? We will explain…

Les règles du cricket
Il y a 11 joueurs sur le terrain et 2 autres joueurs sur la piste. Le but du jeu est d’avoir ou de gagner le plus de points possible. Une équipe va sur le terrain et les 2 autres joueurs de l’équipe adverse sur le centre du terrain (la piste). Le 1er joueur lance la balle pendant que l’autre essaye de la renvoyer le plus loin possible. Les points sont déterminés par rapport à la position de la balle. Si elle sort du stade (6 pts), si elle sort du terrain en rebondissant (4 pts) mais si elle ne sort pas (0 pt) le lanceur doit faire un aller-retour (2 pts), mais s’il ne fait qu’un aller ce sera (1 pt).

The rules of pétanque
There are 2 or 4 players they each have got 4 boules and they have one jack (jack, a small ball made of wood which the players aim at). The players take it in turns to throw their boules at the jack. At the end the points go to the player who’s boule(s) are closest to the jack after everyone has thrown all their boules. 1 point is scored for each ball closest to the jack. A good tactic in the game is to knock opponents’ boules out of the way.
